AB 1234 ETHICS TRAINING

Assembly Bill 1234 requires certain City officials, including elected and appointed members of commissions, committees, boards, and other legislative bodies (as defined in California Government Code §§ 53234, 53235.1, 53235.2) who receive compensation or expense reimbursement to complete ethics training every two year. This training ensures that public servants understand and follow key ethics laws and principles while performing their duties.A Certificate of Completion is issued once the ethics training requirements have been fulfilled and is a public record that must be retained for at least five years. The City Clerk’s Office notifies individuals of their obligation to complete the training and maintains records of those who have completed it. Copies of a Certificate of Completion may be obtained by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at 310-973-3211, via email at [email protected], or by submitting a Public Records Act request.

SB 827 FISCAL AND FINANCIAL TRAINING

As of January 1, 2026, City officials, including elected and appointed members of commissions, committees, boards, and other legislative bodies (as defined in California Government Code §§ 53234, 53235.1, 53235.2) are required by Senate Bill 827 to complete training in fiscal and financial management every two years. The training covers budgeting, financial reporting, auditing, debt and investment management, and responsible stewardship of public resources. City staff and officials involved in financial decisions will complete this training soon.
