ECHS: A NEW KIND OF SCHOOL IS COMING TO LAWNDALE

 

 

ECHS is a small public high school offering expanded educational choices to students in Lawndale and surrounding communities, ECHS is a high school where students and teachers work together to insure every student's success. At ECHS, students enjoy the benefits of learning beyond classroom walls. They explore community issues, investigate the use and sometimes abuse of our resources, work on service oriented projects and conduct field work studies that may take them to Yosemite or Catalina Island.

ECHS students learn about themselves and the career options that fit with their interests. They will do internships and job shadow professionals in business and industry. ECHS students will be prepared to move forward upon graduation.

 

MISSION STATEMENT:
"To provide our diverse student body with a student-centered academic program that extends learning beyond
the classroom walls and into the local environment. All ECHS students will graduate with the knowledge, skills
and values to become lifelong learnersand stewards of their community - a community where magic happens."

We will work closely with the community partners to create an environment of learning where all participants
are exposed to rigorous, academic-based curriculum that is revelant to their local environment.

What is a Charter School?
A charter school is a free public school created by a group of teachers, parents, and/or community leaders and is
sponsored by a school district or a county board of education. It is created to expand choices for students and their
parents, increase the number of public school opportunities, encourage innovative teaching, and improve student
achievement. A charter school may not charge tuition, may not discriminate against any pupil on the basis of
ethnicity, origin, gender, or disability, and must be nonsectarian in its programs, policies, employment practices,
and all other operational procedures.

Each year, students will successfully complete academic coursework that will meet or exceed
California State University andUniversity of California entrance requirements  Coursework
will require students to apply skills learned in real world situationsduring their junior and senior
years, via field study and senior thesis. To enhance learning even further, all students will attend a
daily advisory period where they work closely with instructors. They will also complete an
enrichment program and attend anend of year school conference, where all stakeholders reflect on
the year's accomplishments. These aspects of the program aremeant to improve students' skills,
knowledge,and values.
