national organization of television industry professionals, has recognized the City of Lawndale's Cable Television Department for its sports coverage. The "Mayor's Cup Football" production won in two separate categories, "Sports" and "Low Budget". It could be said that not only does the Channel 22 sports crew do an outstanding job, they do it for less.

Out of 2,413 entries from throughout the United States as well as several foreign countries, "Mayor's Cup Football" was judged to be among the best submitted by a panel of judges chosen for their extensive experience and creativity in the video field. The Videographer Awards is a national awards organization that helps set the standards for the video production industry.

Intense game action
Some winners come from video production companies, broadcast and cable television networks, studio and independent film and video producers, advertising and public relations agencies, as well as corporate communications departments, educational and government agencies.

Some of the other winners included NBC, Discovery Channel, AT&T, the San Diego Chargers, Animal Planet, ESPN, CBS News "60 Minutes II", The Rosie O'Donnel Show, KFOR-TV, KPBS-TV, Saatchi & Saatchi, NASA, the United States Navy, Nokia, and the World Bank to name a few.
The City of Lawndale's Cable Television Department has been providing quality local coverage of both Leuzinger and Hawthorne High Schools for the since 1987. From the days of when Hawthorne High's Curtis Conway scored touchdowns seemingly at will, to Leuzinger Coach Markham's relentless double wing ground assault leading to last second defeat in the CIF Semi-Finals, the Channel 22 production crew has covered the action with up to 5 camera support, dual-angle slow-motion instant replay, beautiful graphics and intelligent and insightful sportscasting.

Rufus Washington and Dave Marks
Channel 22 has been very fortunate to have the benefit of Rufus Washington as the voice of Channel 22 Sports since 1987. Rufus has been Channel 22's "Chick Hearn" announcing virtually every single football and basketball game ever broadcast on Channel 22 and Channel 60. This is even a more staggering feat as Rufus has given his time and talents to Channel 22 Sports for free. Recently, he has been joined by Dave Marks, a talented sportscaster with a mind for stats and insightful color commentary. Together they provide some of the most sophisticated sports announcing in the business.
And for the past two years, Channel 22 has enjoyed the gutsy and provocative sideline reporting from Ken Fine. Ken has made become a "fine" addition to the Channel 22 Sports team, providing first hand reports, stats and interviews with the many coaches, players and dignitaries that make these contest the spectacles they are. Rufus, Dave and Ken not only help make Channel 22 Sports a local favorite, they have helped shape the face of local television and continue to push the envelope of community television sports production.

Many talented individuals have contributed to the legacy that is Channel 22 Sports, including former CATV Supervisor Michael Galarza who initiated the program in 1987, and the current CATV Supervisor Tom Strickfaden, the technical and creative force "behind the TV magic" who now produces and directs. "Old School" video crewmembers such as Mike Korytowski, Brian Baxter, Bob Cummins, Rami Radi, Bill Barnes, Armin Jorge, Jose Bravo, Ali Santana and Robert Medina all have made contributions that have made Channel 22 Sports the standard of excellence that only
much larger operations are able to acheive.

And just in case you missed the credit roll at the end of each game, here it is, one more time.
